About Link Byfield

A strong and clear
voice for Alberta!

Link Byfield, 52, came to Alberta from rural Manitoba in 1978. He joined Alberta Report newsmagazine, founded by his father Ted Byfield five years earlier, as an agriculture reporter. In the early 1980s he won consecutive first prizes at the Western Magazine Awards in Vancouver for agricultural and political coverage.

In 1985 Ted Byfield withdrew from the daily management of the Alberta magazine, leaving Link in charge as publisher. He became editor as well in 1989.

The magazine’s 60,000 paid circulation and one-quarter-million readership played a key role in building the movement for a Triple E Senate and the rise of the Reform Party.

Link Byfield was also instrumental in the Resolution One Association, which joined with the Saskatchewan Taxpayers Association to form the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

In 2003, Link launched the Citizens Centre for Freedom and Democracy (www.citizenscentre.com), a nonpartisan advocacy group promoting honest, accountable and constitutional government. The Citizens Centre conducts advertising and mass e-mail campaigns promoting equality before the law, free speech and provincial rights.

The Citizens Centre, along with other groups like the Alberta Residents League and former senator-elect Ted Morton, has been instrumental in promoting the “Alberta Agenda,” a list of provincial rights measures to strengthen Alberta’s position within Confederation.

Link lives near Edmonton at Riviere Qui Barre. His wife Joanne Byfield is past-president of Alberta Pro-Life and current president of Life Canada. They have three grown sons and a daughter in school.

Albertans need a strong and clear voice to defend the interests of their province!

On election day, vote Link Byfield for Senator-elect!
