Link Byfield registered as a candidate in Senate election

EDMONTON - Link Byfield today was registered by Alberta's electoral office as a candidate for Senator-elect in the November 22 provincial election.

He was one of 10 candidates to make today's deadline.

Byfield submitted more than his required 1,500 signatures of endorsement. Aided by a province-wide network of volunteers, the former magazine publisher delivered over 1,700 signatures.

His campaign team is now raising money for a series of province-wide radio ads to heighten public awareness of the Senate election, and of Alberta's need to press for serious federal reform in light of high oil prices and the Liberals' minority position in Parliament.

"We know what the Liberals will do to rebuild their winning majority in eastern Canada, because they have done it to us before," said Byfield.

"They'll invent a pretext to levy special taxes on petroleum, and transer even more billions of dollars to eastern Canada, just as they did with the National Energy Program in the '80s. Albertans need to give a strong mandate to Senate candidates to speak for constructive federal reform and provincial rights."
